Nur Fazura stars in E!'s first original Malaysian mini-series

Malaysia’s own Nur Fazura Sharifuddin (Nur Fazura) is set to make history as the star of Facing Up To Fazura, a 5 x 30min Malaysian mini-series for E! – the pop culture powerhouse of NBCUniversal International Television. Set to premiere across Asia on Sunday, 14 December 2014 at 9pm – and air weekly in this time slot – Facing Up To Fazura is the first-ever E! miniseries to feature a Malaysian personality.

The sensational docudrama will offer viewers unprecedented access to this polarising personality’s life, loves, challenges, triumphs and joys in everyday life as a leading entertainment and fashion socialite in Malaysia and South East Asia. Throughout the series, viewers will be treated to an in-depth and unscripted look at Nur Fazura’s often-controversial life on and off the camera.

"I never imagined that anyone would be interested to showcase my life, let alone have a whole series planned around me for E! I feel so blessed and humbled at the same time,” said Nur Fazura, “I have always been a private person so having a reality show does make me a little nervous. I am showing everyone my world and I really hope they enjoy what they see.”

The miniseries is part of NBCUniversal International Television’s commitment to Asian productions and celebrity stories. It will also feature a host of cameos and guest appearances by many of Fazura’s famous friends and colleagues from the worlds of entertainment, film and fashion.

“E!’s success is driven by the exclusive access to celebrities and  Facing up to Fazura is a perfect fit for our channel,” said Christine Fellowes, Managing Director, Universal Networks International, Asia-Pacific. “E! combines the best of Hollywood with the breakout stars from Asia and we are excited to build on our commitment to the local entertainment industry and shine the spotlight on this Malaysian artist and bring her to the global stage.”

Developed and produced by Matchbox Asia, production begins in Malaysia later this month. Facing Up To Fazura is executive produced by Karen Wiggins, whose credits include E!’s It Takes GUTZ To Be A Gutierrez

Chris Oliver-Taylor, Managing Director, Matchbox Asia said “This series continues the ongoing commitment Matchbox Asia has to developing and producing ground-breaking, innovative and original Entertainment programming across Asia”.

E! has produced a number of local specials featuring top talents from the Malaysian showbiz industry, namely renowned actress Lisa Surihani, leading man Aaron Aziz and the upcoming E! News Asia Special: Yuna , which premieres 25 November, Tuesday at 9pm, also produced by Matchbox Asia.

Facing Up To Fazura premieres on 14 December (Sunday) at 9pm on E! (Starhub Cable TV Channel 441).

Series Synopsis

2014 has been a very busy year for Nur Fazura. It’s also been a significant one. Having just celebrated her 31 st birthday, it’s given her cause to reflect on her life. The last three decades have certainly been eventful… with the later part marred by controversies left, right and centre. Whilst professionally Fazura thrives, she doesn’t have the public 100% on her side. With a loving family behind her and a supportive group of friends, she wonders why she is seen as the celebrity with a ‘reputation.’ People often think of her as the party girl, not the good Malaysian girl. Defying convention, and notions of how women should behave in proper society, she seemingly flaunts her sexuality in the media. What’s more, she keeps the company of many males and has been involved in several high-profile romances, and also a fair number of public spats. What's all that about?

If she were to confront her past, right some of her wrongs and show people who she really is – not just the girl in the magazines and movies – would people think differently of her? In her 31st year, this is her mission: to challenge people’s perceptions of the Fazura they think they know and instead, begin to understand her real and complex character. Hopefully by addressing her past, she can she have a brighter future and leave all the hullabaloo behind. It’s time for Fazura to face up to… herself.
