NBCUniversal International Television Strengthens Partnership with Starhub

PRESS RELEASE

NBCUniversal International Television is strengthening its foothold in the Singapore pay-TV landscape with leading cable TV platform StarHub TV, reinforcing a partnership that began in 2008. Through strategic initiatives such as StarHub TV Anywhere, HD feeds and channel renumbering, the current partnership between the two companies will now go beyond traditional linear TV distribution, catering to the growing demands and consumption habits of Singapore’s pay-TV audiences.

“This strategic partnership with StarHub marks an important milestone for NBCUniversal International Television,” said Christine Fellowes, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific, Universal Networks International. “Singapore boasts one of the highest mobile and internet penetration rates in the world and StarHub is a key partner for us to deliver our top-rated content to the country’s highly-connected audiences.”

“Our partnership with NBCUniversal International Television has consistently delighted customers with hit programmes and compelling content,” said Lee Soo Hui, Head of Media Business Unit, StarHub. “With more channels being introduced on StarHub TV Anywhere, coupled with shorter windows, we can now provide the latest titles on multiple devices, heightening the viewing experience for customers.”

At present, StarHub TV has secured carriage deals for all channels in the entertainment powerhouse’s diverse, female-focused, regional portfolio – E! (home of the hottest celebrity news and entertainment), DIVA (Asia’s leading women’s entertainment channel), Universal Channel (the portfolio’s flagship channel, featuring popular character-driven dramas) and Syfy (the destination for imagination-based entertainment).

Strategic initiatives launching in Q4, 2014 are as follows:

Carriage on StarHub TV Anywhere

Creating a television experience that is truly universal, E!, Syfy and Universal Channel will launch on StarHub’s multiscreen service, StarHub TV Anywhere in end October. This 360-driven initiative enables viewers to catch their favourite shows – such as Universal Channel’s fire rescue drama Chicago Fire (season three), magic prank show Tricked (season two) and twisted fairytale thriller Grimm (season four) – within 48 hours of their world premieres on the device of their choice.

Channel renumbering for DIVA and Syfy

Ensuring a user-friendly experience for viewers to discover new and exciting content, DIVA and Syfy will take on new channel numbers with effect from today:

Syfy’s new berth on StarHub also coincides with the premiere week of its first Asian series, The Paranormal Zone – a reality-based investigation documentary that looks at some of Asia’s most spookiest locations. Original productions are also a top priority for sister channel DIVA, with the return of SupermodelMe: Sirens in November. Contestants on this season include Miss Singapore Universe 2013 Shi Lim and Brazilian-Japanese twins Rafaella and Gabriela Leonardo. Other programming initiatives on DIVA include the same-day premieres of critically acclaimed series – period drama Downton Abbey (season five) and cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine (season two).

E! HD Feed

Also launching today is the HD feed of E! – the destination for all things ‘Pop of Culture’. StarHub TV viewers will get to enjoy the latest scoop on the hottest Hollywood celebrity news and entertainment in their full High-Definition glory. Offering a television experience like no other, E! features sensational Asian originals such as It Takes Gutz To Be A Gutierrez, as well as content coming to Asia ‘Express From Hollywood’, allowing viewers to catch their favourite TV shows like Keeping Up With The Kardashians, #RichKids of Beverly Hills and E! News within hours of their U.S. debut.
