What We See May Not Be Real, What is Real We May Not See

PRESS RELEASE

The Paranormal Zone, the reality-based documentary series, has premiered on Syfy on 29 September and its a show that fans of paranormal activities must not miss!

Hosted by Phng Li Kim, the reality-based documentary series brings a whole new insight to the unexplained phenomena lurking within Asia. The Paranormal Zone seeks to find what is real and unreal beyond the usual spirits and haunted places such as, trances and curses; tarot card readers and spiritual healers; local myths and practiced rituals, all of which, bear the East’s eccentricities and influences.

In The Paranormal Zone, the daredevil Malaysian-born host Li Kim and her team go to extremes to uncover the paranormal, as seen carrying out taboo experiments such as sitting in a cemetery at night and stroking the bloody remains of a cursed foetus.

The Paranormal Zone provides audiences with both mythical and scientific perspectives as the crew travel to sites such as hotels, temples, dingy back lanes in Asia; and talk to people from all varying backgrounds – from celebrities, researchers, enthusiasts, believers, to skeptics – on their classified, strange and mystifying encounters.

Li Kim, daredevil host of The Paranormal Zone

Li Kim’s sincerity, honesty and effervescence; coupled with her natural gift in coaxing interviewees to share about their dark encounters, give the show a refreshing perspective on the paranormal.

“Asia’s diversity of cultures and beliefs has bred a trove of mysteries and myths, of which, many are still awaiting to be uncovered and explained. Shooting the series, I get to venture deeper into a realm that most humans are curious of but do not dare seek,” said Li Kim.

Following the success of The Paranormal Zone in Malaysia, produced by local production house Kechara Media & Publications Sdn. Bhd., its third season will be Syfy’s first local co-production, which will begin filming in early 2015.

“Syfy is all about science fiction, supernatural entertainment – it appeals to audiences here because there is no other channel focused on this fan base”, said Christine Fellowes, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, NBCUniversal Channels. “The Paranormal Zone is a perfect fit for our channel’s audience and we are committed to further expand this genre with local stories.”

Here's a summary of what to expect in each episode:

Episode 1 - The Curse of The Ghost Child

It is not uncommon for a person to invite a “Ghost Child” or a “Toyol” home for various reasons but mainly to attract wealth when gambling, to steal from others and to carry out odd jobs like getting an enemy in to trouble. These infant souls are evoked and created by a sorcerer from the remains or fetus of an aborted child, purged out of their mothers during the forth month of pregnancy. But what becomes of the baby spirit at the later stage of his life? What are the karmic consequences of such acts? Find out more in this episode.

Episode 2 - Talking to the Dead

In this episode we will demonstrate two sessions of spirit communications; one through a relatively popular tool known as “Tip Sin” or The Spirit of the Saucer and the other is an Ouija Board named “The Psychic Circle”. These techniques of spirit communication represent the Eastern and Western ways respectively of talking to the dead. Ultimately, the bottom line remains, when dabbling with the spirit realms, are we mature and responsible enough to fully embrace what might come through from the other side?

Episode 3 - Nature Spirits

This is not a show on saving the environment. But it is about living in peace and harmony with the unseen realm, which we somehow believe is there but can’t really prove it. So, we hope through this episode, the audience will learn and experience through Li Kim that Nature Spirits are part of us because we are all part of nature. The episode was shot in Jeram Besu, Pahang where Li Kim and the The Paranormal Crew spent two hours in dark at night, communicating with nature spirits.

Episode 4 - My Friends from The Other Side

This episode focuses on a certified Malaysian Ghost Researcher who completed a course in the scientific research of ghosts and spirits from America and his invisible friends. Can a human being forge a harmonious relationship with Casper and his family? It seems that anything is really possible. Watch to learn more.

The next time you go to bed, beware of what comes into your sleep.

Episode 6 - Divining Your Destiny

Is our life destined at birth? Can we improve and become better or is everything fixed? As much as we want to define the entire universe scientifically, we are unable to explain the mysteries of our future. Through the studies of various forms of metaphysics like nadi leaves reading and the patterns of our handwriting and signature, graphology, we learn what the experts say about our fate and destiny.

Episode 7 - Exorcism – Casting Out Evil

Spirit possession is a common phenomenon in this part of the world. Every other person we know would have a ghost story to tell and more often it is about how this ghost was living in another person’s body.

What can be done to help the victim? In this episode we will explore the Hindu and Buddhist ways of casting out evil.

Episode 8 - The Haunted House

Li Kim and The Paranormal Zone team travel up north to Sungai Petani, Kedah and together with a prominent certified Malaysian Ghost Researcher investigate on a so-called haunted house. Modern ghost detecting gadgets, night vision cameras and the right intention were some of the ingredients used to ensure a successful investigation. What happened at the abandoned house? What was recorded by the cameras? Who were the voices that invited the team to return?

Episode 9 - Calming Kellie’s Castle

Kellie’s Castle, located in Batu Gajah, Perak has the reputation of being one of the most haunted places in Malaysia. Is it true? This majestic architecture built about 100 years ago was supposedly the home of Mr.Kellie and his family. Nevertheless Kellie died before completing his dream mansion and it is said that the spirits of Kellie and his daughter loom the castle night after night. In this episode, Li Kim and The Paranormal Zone team visit this location together with a master energy healer to calm the spirits of Kellie’s Castle.

Episode 10 - Opening to Channel

The chosen ones are bestowed the gift of spreading messages from heaven or the Universe. Very often, they are referred to as the messengers - regardless of religion, culture, nation and era, this group of individuals surface as Tarot Card readers, crystal channels and trance masters of a particular deity or simply as a writer of a TV script or a novel. Who are these people and how do they answer to their call and most importantly how can they be of help to a world that is screaming for factual proof, reason and soundness of
the left brain?

Episode 11 - Reincarnation - Life After Life

Does death extinguish life once and for all or does death in one life time give birth to a new life time? In this episode we explore and learn about the truths and reasons of life after death. Some experts such as past life regressionists and spiritualists claim that life continues as we come back again and again playing different roles. Some do not believe in reincarnation despite having near death encounters. Watch as Li Kim travels into her past life to find out something about herself.

Episode 12 - Sewang – The Dance of Nature

In this two part episode, Li Kim and The Paranormal Zone team travel to the Temenggor Damn in Perak to meet and learn from the Jahai tribe of the Orang Asli settlement.
