Booyakasha! Nickelodeon's TMNT are taking over Asia


Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) are taking over Asia with animated emoticon stickers on Weixin and WeChat available globally and Turtles-themed activities taking place at City Square Mall in Singapore and KidZania Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from August. The kids and family entertainment brand’s collaborations with popular Japanese acts GReeeeN and Ulfuls have resulted in two new music videos scheduled to premiere in Asia on the channel and online at from 22 August followed by new episodes of the animated series which will air in September. Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon also announced that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mobile Game for the highly anticipated summer film “TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES” is now available globally for iOS, Android and Amazon devices.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Weixin and WeChat

On 12 August, Nickelodeon announced the launch of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated emoticon stickers* on Weixin and WeChat globally. Users can download the sticker set on the Apple iOS and Android platforms for free. Emoticons are metacommunicative pictorial representation of a facial or physical expression in the absence of body language. They express usually, by means of punctuation marks, a person’s feelings or mood. In recent years, communication through social media has played a significant part in accelerating the popularity of emoticons. WeChat is the fastest growing mobile social application for smartphones developed by Tencent, who has been selling users virtual goods like gaming avatars, online stickers and other icons.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie Mobile Game

Based on the new film in theatres 7 August (Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand), the mobile game allows players to take back the streets of New York City with the most shell-tastic team ever. Playing as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello or Raphael, players will activate fierce Ninjutsu-style moves to keep the city safe. The game features exciting and intuitive combat controls, upgrades and weapons, a Turtle Power super attack and two unique modes of play: Story Mode, where the Turtles learn to be the warriors they become in the movie, and Survival Mode, in which players must stay alive against endless waves of enemies. Players will also be able to test their skills with in-game challenges and compete against their friends’ high scores.

The game was developed by The Game Bakers, creator of the acclaimed Combo Crew and Squids. The story was written by Tom Waltz, contributing author to the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic series from IDW Publishing.

Season 2 of the hit animated series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, airing on Nickelodeon sees the continuation of the crime-fighting adventures of the four mutant turtles&mdash Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo. Turtle Mania Goes J-Pop

Nickelodeon’s collaborations with Japanese bands GReeeeN and Ulfuls produced two theme songs for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series when it aired in April in Japan for the first time. Members of GReeeeN had the chance to perform as the Turtles in their music video for the song “Shinobi” while Ulfuls’ song “Booyakasha!” was named after the catchphrase used by the Turtles in the show. The music videos will premiere in Asia on the channel and online at from 22 August.

Total Turtle Takeover at City Square Mall

The public is invited to check out a special 3D floor art of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shown exclusively at the Level 1 Atrium of City Square Mall (directly connected to Farrer Park MRT Station) for the first time in Singapore from 21 August to 14 September. They stand a chance to win $50 worth of shopping vouchers when they snap a photo with the Turtles and share it on Instagram using the hashtag #TurtlesAtCitySqMall.

The lean, green and mean fighting heroes will then rise up out of the sewers and hit the stage in live shows at the Level 1 Atrium from 6 to 14 September. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at KidZania Kuala Lumpur

From 12 August, kids heading to the Nickelodeon Acting Academy and Theatre at KidZania Kuala Lumpur will get to role-play as their favourite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters. The aspiring thespians will be able to attend acting classes at the Acting Academy, wear the character outfits and then perform for an audience at the Theatre. Meet-and-greet sessions with characters Raphael and Michelangelo will take place from 19 to 21 September.
